The rules for conducting nostrification procedure BIP UŁ  

Required documents
  • Application for nostrification proceedings, together with a statement of place and date of birth and a statement indicating whether the degree for which recognition is sought has been the subject of nostrification proceedings in Poland;
  • Diploma confirming the awarding of a doctoral degree (in the original language with an English translation);
  • Master's degree to apply for the award of a doctoral degree (in the original language together with an English translation);
  • A description of the course of doctoral studies (including a list of passed subjects/courses) (in the original language, with translation into English);
  • Dissertation defense protocol (in the original language, with English translation);
  • Doctoral dissertation (may be in electronic version);
  • List of academic achievements (Curriculum Vitae, in English).

Nostrification procedure

The procedure for nostrification is as follows:

  • After the Candidate has submitted the application and original documents to the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection of the University of Lodz, the Chairperson of the UniLodz Commission for Degrees in the Discipline of Biological Sciences, Prof. Agnieszka Marczak, appoints a Team to evaluate the documentation. The Team's task is to verify whether the Candidate's PhD degree is equivalent to the PhD degree awarded in Poland. According to the regulations, the Team has a maximum of 90 days for this assessment.
  • After a positive assessment, the Team directs a request to the UniLodz Commission for Academic Degrees for the nostrification of the doctoral degree.
  • The vote on the nostrification takes place at a meeting of the UniLodz Commission for Academic Degrees. At this meeting, the Commission also decides whether to waive the nostrification fee, if such an application is made.
  • Once an application for the nostrification of a doctoral degree has been accepted by the UniLodz Degrees Committee (successful vote), the Candidate will receive the appropriate certificate.
Fee for nostrification procedure

Nostrification is subject to a fee. A candidate may apply for a partial or full exemption from this fee. The application must be justified. The application can be completed in English.

Required documents
  • Application for the nostrification procedure; Statement of date and place of birth;
  • Master's degree diploma (in the original language together with its translation into English);
  • Diploma Supplements, i.e. documents enabling the assessment of the course of study, the learning outcomes achieved and the duration of the studies (in the original language together with an English translation);
  • Diploma or other document on the basis of which the Candidate was admitted to studies (undergraduate diploma or secondary school-leaving certificate in case of pursuing a uniform master's degree) (in the original language together with its translation into English);
  • Alternatively, a CV (Curriculum Vitae, in English) may be attached.

  • The vote on the nostrification takes place at a meeting of the UniLodz Commission for Academic Degrees. At this meeting, the Commission also decides whether to waive the nostrification fee, if such an application is made.
  • Once the UniLodz Commission for Academic Degrees has accepted the application for the nostrification of the graduation diploma (successful vote), the Candidate receives the appropriate certificate.
