The Kinematograf Cinema invites you to the screenning of the latest film by Paweł Pawlikowski (winner of the Oscar and BAFTA for “Ida” [Ida]) entitled ”Ojczyzna" [Homeland]. The film tells the story of the relationship between Thomas Mann (Hanns Zischler – “Munich”), Nobel Prize laureate in literature, and his daughter Erika (Sandra Hüller – “The Zone of Interest”, “Anatomie d'une chute” [Anatomy of a Fall], “Project Hail Mary” – an actress and writer). The plot is set at the height of the Cold War. Father and daughter set off on a demanding and emotionally charged journey in a black Buick through a devastated Germany – from American‑controlled Frankfurt to Soviet‑influenced Weimar. For the first time since the war, Mann returns to his homeland after previously making the difficult decision to emigrate to the United States.

The film “Ojczyzna” won the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Festival and is now entering Polish cinemas.

Another interesting premiere at the Kinematograf Cinema is the documentary “Znaki Pana Śliwki” [The Signs of Mr Śliwka] by Urszula Morga and Bartosz Mikołajczyk, whose world premiere will take place during the 41st Warsaw Film Festival. This is an opportunity to see, for the first time, a film portraying the life and work of the iconic graphic designer Karol Śliwka. The creators drew on unique archival materials as well as private video recordings made by the protagonist over many years.

And a treat for jazz enthusiasts – a genre that, as usual, intertwines with others. Passes for the 19th Summer Jazz Academy are now available. The regular price is 260 PLN, but for the Uni Lodz community it is only 210 PLN. Passes are available until 2 July!

This year’s edition will be headlined by Dee Dee Bridgewater – one of the greatest personalities in the world of jazz, a Grammy and Tony Award winner, and an artist who has been setting the standard for jazz vocals for decades.

The festival will open with Grzegorz Turnau’s project “Szósta Godzina” [Sixth Hour] – a live performance of his latest album. During this exceptional recital, Turnau will perform with artists including the Atom String Quartet and Dorota Miśkiewicz.

The Summer Jazz Academy programme will also feature Xavi Torres with his Barencia project – an energetic blend of jazz and flamenco; Anna Colom – a charismatic Basque vocalist considered one of the most compelling voices on the contemporary Iberian scene, combining flamenco, Basque tradition and modern improvisation; as well as outstanding Polish artists: Marcin Masecki, Jan Emil Młynarski, Henryk Miśkiewicz, Natalia Kordiak and Hania Derej. In addition, there will be a number of talented young artists.
