Let's talk about Wednesday!
Wednesday's workshops (26 November 2025) were a continuation of the first workshops, which kicked off the series. During them, our expert, Konrad Budziński, described in detail the water cycle in nature and how we can improve hydrological conditions, even with small and simple steps.
He also extensively discussed the role insects play in ecosystem balance. Using the example of a soil barium, he demonstrated the entire cycle of proper circulation of living matter. He also pointed out the importance of creating such shelters, especially during the winter, for these beneficial creatures, as well as for hedgehogs, for example.
The topic of pollinating insects and how we can help them in the difficult conditions prevailing in the centres of large cities also had to be addressed. The emerging wildflower meadow will be an ideal habitat for them, and the "hotel," purchased with funds received from the Veolia Polska Foundation, will be a valuable refuge.
The expert also presented the positive benefits of watering troughs for both birds and insects, and finally, we discussed the importance of installing birdhouses in cities. The birdhouses purchased as part of the project will serve swifts, which are very beneficial for sustainable development.

What happened on the last day of the workshops?
The workshop, which was held on Thursday, 27 November of the current year, served as a summary of the series of meetings. Many participants asked numerous questions, and the presenter prepared a quiz for participants summarising the knowledge gained from the previous meetings.
Unfortunately, weather conditions and heavy snow prevented us from presenting the finished project. However, all is not lost! It will finally be available for use by all interested parties in the spring, and for animals and insects now – to help them survive the coming winter.
The workshop series was very popular not only among the academic community but also among the local community. Approximately 60 people participated in the three sessions. These workshops proved to be a particularly valuable experience for those working at UniLodz. During the sessions, they learned how to properly maintain the green spaces within the University of Lodz Student Campus so that they not only look good but also play an important positive role in the ecosystem.
However,… what exactly is the Eco Corner of Well-Being?
The Eco Corner of Well-Being is an investment that is being created between the recently renovated Student Dormitory No. 9 and the allotment garden area on Pomorska Street. The work is financed by a PLN 20,000 grant from Veolia, as part of its "Together for the Region" programme.
It is a natural extension and complement to the existing Water Corner in Lumumbowo, which focuses on the dynamic world of water and its role in the ecosystem, with its meadow sites (supporting retention and biodiversity), rainwater catchment (demonstrating the water cycle) and information sites about the ecosystem (a source of knowledge).
Together, these two projects will create a comprehensive system of green spaces that will not only enhance the biodiversity and aesthetics of the surrounding area, but above all, provide residents and students with a holistic experience of contact with nature, while promoting environmental education and sustainable development.
Thank you for the time spent together at the workshops!
"Together for the Region" is a grant programme of the Veolia Poland Foundation, implemented as a competition for projects supporting the ecological transformation of cities and regions. The main goal of "Together for the Region" is to support local communities located around Veolia Group entities in Poland in implementing social projects in the areas of the Circular Economy (CE), Water Management and Energy Efficiency.
