As part of free recurring events, workshops and educational activities, participants have an opportunity to discover what scientific work looks like behind the scenes and conduct experiments themselves. As a result, biology becomes a fascinating adventure that not only develops interests but also opens the way to a wide range of educational and career paths.
Selected Educational Initiatives and Programmes of the Faculty
The Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, University of Lodz runs a number of unique programmes and events aimed at nature enthusiasts of all ages:
- Open Day – an event intended for high school students, organised in March and April. It helps participants make informed decisions about choosing a degree programme, such as Biology, Biotechnology or Environmental Protection. Participants can take part in workshops, visit state-of-the-art laboratories and talk to students and academic staff.
- Biologists’ Night – a nationwide event held in January for nature enthusiasts of all ages. It offers an opportunity to learn about the secrets of ocean research, cancer genetics, advanced scientific equipment and the use of artificial intelligence in medicine.
- Institute of Creative Biology (IKB) – an interdisciplinary project for high school students, organised once a month from September to June. It integrates various branches of biology through lectures, laboratory workshops and field activities (also available online). The project was recognised by the Minister of Science and Higher Education as part of the Społeczna odpowiedzialność Nauki III [Social Responsibility of Science III] programme.
- Open University (UZO) – an initiative with year-round recruitment and classes running from September to June. It enables high school students to participate in academic lectures and workshops, helping them consciously plan their future educational pathway.
- "Talented at School, Brilliant at the University" – a programme designed for the most ambitious and passionate students. Under the supervision of scientists, participants carry out their own research projects, progressing through all stages of scientific work, from formulating a hypothesis to presenting results publicly during a formal closing gala.
