More than 23,000 samples will be added to the European scientific ecosystem – safely stored at Biobank Łódź and made available to researchers. Representing the Polish BBMRI Node, researchers from the University of Lodz have paved the way for other Polish biobanks seeking to join the global biobanking elite.
The Centre for Digital Biology and Biomedical Sciences – Biobank Łódź is a Polish leader in the digitisation and sharing of biomolecular data. Our university is home to ambitious and innovative projects such as "Genome Map of Poland in Open Access," "EvolveBBMRI", and "Genome of Europe."
It should be emphasised that the University of Lodz is in charge of the Federated European Genome-Phenome Archive Polish Node and now also participates in the BBMRI-ERIC infrastructure.
What is BBMRI-ERIC?
BBMRI-ERIC is the leading infrastructure for the development of biobanking in Europe. Its mission is to bring together all stakeholders in biobanking – i.e. researchers, biobank representatives, industry and patients – to increase the use of biological samples and data resources in innovative research. It offers support in the implementation and maintenance of quality management systems, expertise in ethical, legal and social aspects of biobanking, as well as IT solutions and tools for biobanks and researchers working with human biological samples. The organisation's motto is: "Make new treatments possible".
