About the Event

Did you know that the Biedermann’s Palace was built on a site connected with the earliest history of our city? Centuries ago, this area was home to the cultivated fields of the inhabitants of the former village of Łodzia, the settlement that gave rise to present-day Łódź.

During the guided walk (in Polish), we will discover successive layers of the history of this remarkable place, from the days of the old village, through the era of great industrial development, to the traces of factory infrastructure that have survived to this day.

We will see, among other things, former factory deep wells, a historic water tower and a dust tower. We will search for remains of factory ponds and the system once used for the preliminary treatment of industrial wastewater.

We will also try to trace the forgotten tributaries of the Łódka River, which have completely disappeared from the city landscape, as well as locations associated with the former boundary between Łódź and Bałuty. We will also identify the medieval route that once connected Łódź with Brzeziny.

This walk will take us through several centuries of Łódź’s history, recorded not only in its buildings but also in its watercourses, landscape and the remnants of former infrastructure.

We invite everyone who would like to see Łódź from a different perspective and discover stories hidden in places we often pass by without realising their extraordinary past.

Join us and discover the Łódź that remains invisible in everyday life! The walk around the Biedermann’s Palace will be led by Miłosz Wika, Press Spokesperson for the Łódź Water Supply and Sewerage Company.

The event is organised by the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection, University of Lodz, together with the Łódź Water Supply and Sewerage Company.
