Scientific activity:

IN VITRO LABORATORY:

  • Basic mechanisms of oscillations and synchrony in the central nervous system.
  • Mechanisms underlying the generation of theta rhythm in the hippocampal formation and posterior hypothalamic area maintained in vitro.
  • The activity of posterior hypothalamic and hippocampal single neurons during theta rhythm generation in vitro.
  • Theta rhythm recorded with the use of 256-channel multielectrode arrays (MEA).

IN VIVO LABORATORY:

  • Mechanisms underlying the generation of theta rhythm in the hippocampal formation and posterior hypothalamic in urethanized rats
  • The activity of posterior hypothalamic and hippocampal single neurons during theta rhythm generation in vivo
  • Neurochemical basis of theta rhythm and single cell activity in the limbic system in vivo.

NEUROCHEMICAL LABORATORY:

  • Relationships between the nervous and immune systems - molecular and cellular compensatory mechanisms.
  • Neurochemical and molecular changes in isolated slices of the hippocampal formation.
  • Behavioral and neurochemical organisms' response to infection with Toxoplasma gondii.
  • Brains' barriers in diabetes mellitus.

NEUROBEHAVIORAL LABORATORY:

  • Current research issues are focused on behavioral, neurochemical and neuroreceptive central mechanisms of emotional responses and social interactions.
  • Our research consists in full analyses of different emotional responses in a correlation with monoaminergic neurosystems activities in the brain regions which are responsible for reception and transformation of stressogenic and threatening cues.
