Objectives

The project is designed to implement, demonstrate and disseminate the use of ecohydro-logy and phytotechnology in integrated watershed management, through:

• Creation of an opportunity for integrated cooperative research, demonstration activities, dissemination and exchange of scientific knowledge;
• Creation of a platform for the exchange of technical and policy relevant information;
• Generation of scientific and technical information for environmental education;
• Elaboration of problem solving approaches and dissemination of operational proce-dures to be implemented at the regional scale in support of sustainable development;
• Disseminate the results of the case study for reference and or replication (adapted) in other basins.

Goals to be achieved by EH & PH application in the Pilica Demonstration Project:

• Control and reduce the amount of phosphorus and sediments reaching the Sulejow Reservoir through river flow management in the floodplain and biomass production;
• Increase of water quality in the Pilica River by complementing the treatment of waste-water from Przedbórz Town;
• Reduce the possibilities of the appearance of algal blooms in the Sulejow Reservoir;
• Assess the possibilities of biomass production in a region and prepare a strategy for its use;
• Increase community participation and awareness in matters related to the integrated management of the watershed by involving citizens, local schools and NGOs;
• Disseminate the results of the case study within the basin and abroad;
